This 36-hours course is devoted to learning the basics of the grammar of biblical Hebrew, as well as reading and translating texts from the Hebrew Bible. They will also be required to answer questions on elementary Hebrew grammar and to translate into English some simple Hebrew sentences.
Learning of the fundamentals of phonology, morphology, and syntax of Classical Biblical Hebrew, will be followed by simple readings in Biblical Hebrew prose. The course will focus on developing reading and comprehension skills in biblical Hebrew through the study of biblical texts. The course encourages students to think about the grammatical forms and their implications for biblical interpretation.
